Step-by-Step Instructions

Headlight (H4 / 9003) — Low and High Beam

The 2025 Tenere 700 uses a single H4 halogen headlight with combined low and high beam filaments, housed in a compact rally-style nose cowl. Access is straightforward with minimal bodywork removal.

Step 1: Turn the ignition OFF and allow the headlight to cool for at least 10 minutes.

Step 2: Remove the nose cowl screws (typically 2-3 Phillips screws along the top edge of the rally nose) to gain access to the headlight housing rear.

Step 3: Disconnect the three-pin H4 electrical connector from the bulb base by pressing the release tab and pulling straight out.

Step 4: Remove the rubber dust boot from the rear of the headlight housing. Pull evenly from all sides.

Step 5: Release the wire retainer clip by pressing it inward and sliding it away from the bulb tabs.

Step 6: Pull the old H4 bulb straight out of the housing. Handle by the metal base only — do not touch the glass.

Step 7: Open the new H4 bulb with nitrile gloves on. Clean with isopropyl alcohol if touched.

Step 8: Insert the new H4 bulb, aligning the offset tab on the metal base. Push firmly until seated.

Step 9: Reinstall the wire retainer clip — ensure it hooks securely over the bulb tabs.

Step 10: Reinstall the rubber dust boot. Align marks and press evenly for a complete weatherproof seal — critical for off-road use.

Step 11: Reconnect the three-pin electrical connector until it clicks.

Step 12: Test with the ignition ON — verify both low and high beam.

Step 13: Reinstall the nose cowl screws and torque to 1.5-2.0 Nm.

Step 14: Verify headlight beam alignment (see Tips section).

Front Turn Signals (1157NA) — Amber

Step 1: The Tenere 700 front turn signals are mounted on the triple clamp/fork area below the rally nose — no fairing blocks access.

Step 2: Pull the rubber access grommet at the rear of each turn signal housing to expose the socket.

Step 3: Turn the socket counterclockwise (quarter-turn) and pull it out.

Step 4: Remove the old 1157NA bulb: press into the socket and turn counterclockwise to unlock.

Step 5: Install the new 1157NA amber bulb: push into socket, turn clockwise to lock bayonet base.

Step 6: Test with the turn signal switch — observe normal amber flash rate.

Step 7: Reinsert the socket and turn clockwise to lock.

Step 8: Reseat the rubber grommet completely for weather protection.

Rear Turn Signals (1157NA) — Amber

Step 1: Access the rear turn signals from behind the rear fender. On the T700, these are mounted on a rally-style bracket beneath the tail.

Step 2: Pull back the rubber access grommet on each housing.

Step 3: Turn the socket counterclockwise and pull out the bulb assembly.

Step 4: Remove the old 1157NA bulb (press in, turn counterclockwise).

Step 5: Install the new 1157NA amber bulb (press in, turn clockwise to lock).

Step 6: Test both signals with the switch.

Step 7: Reinsert sockets, turn clockwise to lock.

Step 8: Fully reseat rubber grommets — critical after off-road riding.

Tail / Brake Light (1157) — Dual Contact

Step 1: The Tenere 700 tail light is a compact, functional unit on the rear fender.

Step 2: Remove the Phillips screws (typically 2) securing the tail light lens to the housing.

Step 3: Gently pull the lens cover away to expose the bulb sockets.

Step 4: Identify the 1157 dual-contact tail/brake socket.

Step 5: Turn the socket counterclockwise and remove it.

Step 6: Remove the old 1157 bulb (push in, turn counterclockwise).

Step 7: Install the new 1157 dual-contact bulb: push in, turn clockwise. Verify offset pin alignment.

Step 8: Reinsert the socket and turn clockwise to lock.

Step 9: Reattach the lens and tighten Phillips screws to 1.0-1.5 Nm.

Step 10: Test all functions: tail (ignition ON), brake (front and rear), turn signals through tail housing.

License Plate Light (194 / W5W / T10)

Step 1: Locate the license plate light on the rear fender above the plate mount.

Step 2: Remove the Phillips screw or pop off the lens cover.

Step 3: Pull the old 194 wedge bulb straight out (friction fit).

Step 4: Push the new 194 bulb into the socket.

Step 5: Reinstall the lens cover and secure.

Step 6: Verify illumination with ignition ON.

Position Lamp (T4.2 Wedge)

Step 1: The Tenere 700 has a small T4.2 position lamp on the headlight/rally nose assembly.

Step 2: Access from behind the nose cowl (requires nose cowl screw removal — see headlight section).

Step 3: Pull the old T4.2 wedge bulb straight out. Push the new one in.

Step 4: Verify operation with ignition ON. Reinstall nose cowl screws.

Tips, Warnings & Common Mistakes

Headlight Alignment After Replacement

  1. Park the Tenere 700 upright on level ground, 25 feet from a flat wall.
  2. Measure the headlight center height (approximately 40-42 inches / 102-107 cm due to the tall rally stance).
  3. Draw a horizontal reference line at measured height and a second line 2 inches below.
  4. With low beam active, the bright zone cutoff should be at or below the lower line.
  5. Adjust via the vertical adjustment screw accessible through the nose cowl opening.

LED vs. Halogen — Pros and Cons

Feature Halogen LED
Brightness Good Excellent (up to 3x)
Color Temperature 3200K (warm yellow) 6000K (cool white)
Lifespan 500-1000 hours 25,000-50,000 hours
Power Draw Higher (60/55W) Lower (25-30W equiv.)
Heat Generation High Low
Cost $10-20 $30-80
Plug-and-play Yes May need adapters
Adventure Benefit Proven reliability in cold LED is vibration resistant — ideal for rally/off-road

LED Turn Signal Note: LED turn signals may cause hyper-flashing. Add load resistors or use OEM-approved LED assemblies.
