Step-by-Step Instructions

Headlight (H7) — Low and High Beam (Dual Projectors)

The 2025 MT-10 features dual H7 projector housings — one for low beam and one for high beam — housed in the aggressive, sharp-edged headlight assembly. Both use H7 bulbs. The projector design provides a focused, cutoff beam pattern. Access is from behind each projector housing.

Working on the Low Beam H7:

Step 1: Turn the ignition OFF and allow the headlight to cool for at least 15 minutes. H7 bulbs in projector housings run very hot.

Step 2: Disconnect the electrical connector from the low beam H7 bulb base. Press the locking tab and pull straight off.

Step 3: Remove the rubber dust boot from the rear of the low beam projector housing. The MT-10's tight packaging may require gently working around the triple clamp area.

Step 4: Release the wire retainer clip by pressing the release arm inward and sliding the clip away from the bulb base tabs.

Step 5: Pull the old H7 bulb straight out of the projector housing. Handle by the metal base only — do not touch the glass.

Step 6: Open the new H7 bulb with nitrile gloves. Clean with isopropyl alcohol if glass is touched.

Step 7: Insert the new H7 bulb, aligning the two locating tabs on the base with the projector housing. Push firmly until fully seated.

Step 8: Reinstall the wire retainer clip. It must snap securely and hold the bulb firmly against the projector reflector.

Step 9: Reinstall the rubber dust boot. Align the index mark and press evenly. Verify a complete seal — no gaps.

Working on the High Beam H7 (repeat similar steps):

Step 10: Disconnect the electrical connector from the high beam H7 bulb.

Step 11: Remove the rubber dust boot from the high beam projector housing.

Step 12: Release the retainer clip, remove the old H7 bulb, and install the new one (Steps 5-9 above repeat for the high beam position).

Step 13: Reconnect both electrical connectors. Push each firmly until they click.

Step 14: Test with the ignition ON — verify low beam, then switch to high beam to confirm both functions.

Step 15: Verify headlight beam alignment (see Tips section).

Front Turn Signals (1157NA) — Amber

Step 1: The MT-10 front turn signals are mounted on the fork tube brackets below the headlight — no fairing to remove on this naked bike.

Step 2: Pull the rubber access grommet at the rear of each turn signal housing to expose the socket.

Step 3: Turn the socket counterclockwise (quarter-turn) and pull it out.

Step 4: Remove the old 1157NA bulb: press into the socket and turn counterclockwise to unlock the bayonet base.

Step 5: Install the new 1157NA amber bulb: push in, turn clockwise to lock. Verify offset pins engaged.

Step 6: Test with the turn signal switch — verify normal flash rate and dash indicator.

Step 7: Reinsert the socket and turn clockwise to lock.

Step 8: Reseat the rubber grommet fully for weather protection.

Rear Turn Signals (1157NA) — Amber

Step 1: Access the rear turn signals from behind the tail section. On the MT-10, these are mounted on a bracket beneath the seat cowl.

Step 2: Pull back the rubber access grommet on each housing.

Step 3: Turn the socket counterclockwise and pull out the bulb assembly.

Step 4: Remove the old 1157NA bulb (press in, turn counterclockwise).

Step 5: Install the new 1157NA amber bulb (press in, turn clockwise to lock).

Step 6: Test both signals with the switch — check normal rate and dash sync.

Step 7: Reinsert sockets, turn clockwise to lock.

Step 8: Fully reseat rubber grommets to maintain seal.

Tail / Brake Light (1157) — Dual Contact

Step 1: Locate the tail light integrated into the compact tail section/seat cowl of the MT-10. The tail light is narrow and angular, matching the aggressive MT styling.

Step 2: Remove the Phillips screws (typically 2-3) holding the tail light lens to the housing.

Step 3: Carefully separate the lens to expose the bulb sockets.

Step 4: Identify the 1157 dual-contact tail/brake socket.

Step 5: Turn the socket counterclockwise and remove it.

Step 6: Remove the old 1157 bulb (push in, turn counterclockwise).

Step 7: Install the new 1157 dual-contact bulb: push in, turn clockwise. The offset bayonet pins ensure correct placement.

Step 8: Reinsert the socket and turn clockwise to lock.

Step 9: Reattach the lens and tighten Phillips screws to 1.0-1.5 Nm.

Step 10: Test all functions: tail (ignition ON), brake (front and rear), and turn signals through the tail.

License Plate Light (194 / W5W / T10)

Step 1: Locate the license plate light on the rear fender above the plate mount area.

Step 2: Remove the screw or pry off the lens cover.

Step 3: Pull the old 194 wedge bulb straight out (friction fit).

Step 4: Push the new 194 bulb into the socket (fits one way only).

Step 5: Reinstall the lens cover and secure.

Step 6: Verify illumination with ignition ON.

Position Lamps (T10 / W5W)

Step 1: The MT-10 has dual T10/W5W position lamps on either side of the headlight assembly.

Step 2: Access from behind the headlight housing.

Step 3: Pull the old T10 wedge bulb straight out of its socket.

Step 4: Push the new T10/W5W bulb into the socket — friction fit only.

Step 5: Verify operation with ignition ON.

Tips, Warnings & Common Mistakes

Headlight Alignment After Replacement

  1. Park the MT-10 upright on level ground, 25 feet from a flat wall.
  2. Measure the headlight center height (approximately 33-34 inches / 84-86 cm).
  3. Draw a horizontal reference line on the wall at measured height and a second line 2 inches below.
  4. With low beam active, the projector cutoff should be at or below the lower line.
  5. Adjust via the vertical adjustment screw(s) on the headlight rear bucket.
  6. Dual Projector Note: The MT-10's projector design has a sharper cutoff than reflector headlights — alignment is more critical.

LED vs. Halogen — Pros and Cons

Feature Halogen LED
Brightness Good (standard) Excellent (up to 3x)
Color Temperature 3200K (warm yellow) 6000K (cool white)
Lifespan 500-1000 hours 25,000-50,000 hours
Power Draw Higher (55W each H7) Lower (25-30W equiv.)
Heat Generation High (projector housing runs very hot) Low
Cost $15-25 each $40-80 each
Plug-and-play Yes May need spacers for projector depth

LED Turn Signal Note: The MT-10 has a sophisticated ECU. LED turn signals may cause CAN-bus error codes or hyper-flashing. Use Yamaha-compatible LED assemblies or add load resistors/capacitors.
