Step-by-Step Instructions

Headlight (H13) — Low and High Beam

The 2026 Road Glide Limited uses a 7-inch H13 (9008) dual-filament headlight housed behind the signature shark-nose fixed fairing.

Step 1: Turn the ignition OFF and allow the headlight to cool for at least 10 minutes.

Step 2: Using a T-25 Torx driver, remove the three or four screws securing the headlight trim ring to the shark-nose fairing. Set aside in a small container.

Step 3: Carefully pull the trim ring away from the fairing and set it on a clean, soft surface. Access to the headlight on the Road Glide is somewhat tighter than the batwing models due to the fixed fairing design. You may want a small right-angle Torx for reinstallation.

Step 4: Disconnect the H13 electrical connector from the bulb base by pressing the release tab and pulling the connector body straight off.

Step 5: Release the wire retainer clip holding the bulb by pressing inward on the clip and sliding it to the side.

Step 6: Pull the old H13 bulb straight out. Do not grip the glass — handle by the metal base.

Step 7: Take the new H13 bulb and handle it by the base only. Use nitrile gloves if handling halogen. Clean any glass contact with isopropyl alcohol.

Step 8: Insert the new bulb into the reflector housing. Align the three tabs (wider tab for orientation). Push firmly until the bulb is fully seated.

Step 9: Reinstall the wire retainer clip by pressing inward and sliding it back into position over the bulb tabs. Verify it is secure.

Step 10: Reconnect the electrical connector firmly until it clicks.

Step 11: Test both low beam and high beam before reinstalling the trim ring.

Step 12: Position the trim ring and reinstall all screws. Tighten evenly and snug.

Step 13: Check headlight beam alignment using the wall method below.

Front Turn Signals (1157NA) — Amber

Step 1: Turn the handlebars for access to the fork-mounted turn signal housings.

Step 2: Pull back the rubber access grommet behind each turn signal.

Step 3: Turn the socket counterclockwise and pull straight out.

Step 4: Remove the old 1157NA bulb (push in, turn counterclockwise).

Step 5: Install the new amber 1157NA bulb (push in, turn clockwise).

Step 6: Test the turn signal before reassembly.

Step 7: Reinsert the socket and turn clockwise.

Step 8: Reseat the rubber grommet fully.

Rear Turn Signals (1157NA) — Amber

Step 1: Access the rear turn signals from behind the rear fender.

Step 2: Pull back the rubber access grommet.

Step 3: Turn the socket counterclockwise and remove.

Step 4: Replace the 1157NA bulb (push in, turn counterclockwise to remove; push in, turn clockwise to install).

Step 5: Test and reassemble.

Tour-Pak Top Turn Signals (1157NA) — Amber

Step 1: Access the light cluster at the top of the Tour-Pak. Remove the Tour-Pak cover or access from inside.

Step 2: Identify the turn signal bulb sockets within the Tour-Pak light cluster assembly.

Step 3: Turn each socket counterclockwise and remove.

Step 4: Replace the 1157NA amber bulbs.

Step 5: Test from the switch before reassembly.

Step 6: Reinsert the sockets and rotate clockwise.

Tail / Brake Light (1157) — Dual Contact

Main Tail Light:

Step 1: Locate the tail light housing on the rear fender extension below the Tour-Pak.

Step 2: Remove the T-25 screws (typically two) holding the housing to the fender bracket.

Step 3: Pull the housing back to expose the sockets.

Step 4: Identify the 1157 tail/brake socket (center).

Step 5: Turn the socket counterclockwise to remove.

Step 6: Replace the 1157 bulb.

Step 7: Test dim tail, bright brake, and turn signal.

Step 8: Reinstall the housing and T-25 screws.

Tour-Pak Tail / Brake Light:

Step 1: Access the Tour-Pak lower tail light from underneath or inside.

Step 2: Unclip or unscrew the lens housing.

Step 3: Turn the 1157 bulb socket counterclockwise and remove.

Step 4: Replace the 1157 bulb (push, turn clockwise to install).

Step 5: Test and reassemble the lens housing.

License Plate Light (194 / W5W / T10)

Main License Plate:

Step 1: Locate the license plate light on the rear fender near the plate.

Step 2: Reach up from below the fender to find the wedge-base socket.

Step 3: Pull the socket straight out (no twist).

Step 4: Replace the 194 bulb and reinsert the socket.

Step 5: Verify illumination.

Tour-Pak License Plate:

Step 1: Access the Tour-Pak rear plate light from inside the Tour-Pak or from below.

Step 2: Pull the wedge-base socket and replace the 194 bulb.

Step 3: Test and reinsert the socket.

Front Running Lights (1157)

The front running lights are handled by the same 1157 dual-filament bulbs used in the front turn signals — dim filament for running light, bright filament for turn signal.

Auxiliary Lamps (H11) — If Equipped

Step 1: Locate the auxiliary lamps on the lower fairing supports or engine guard braces.

Step 2: Remove the rear dust cover (turn counterclockwise).

Step 3: Disconnect the electrical connector.

Step 4: Release the wire retainer and remove the H11 bulb.

Step 5: Install the new H11 bulb, secure with retainer, and reconnect the wiring.

Step 6: Test with the ignition on.

Tips, Warnings & Common Mistakes

Headlight Alignment After Replacement

The Road Glide Limited's shark-nose fairing makes headlight access slightly more restricted than the batwing. Follow this procedure:

  1. Park on level ground, 25 feet from a flat wall.
  2. Measure headlight center height from ground.
  3. Draw reference lines on the wall at measured height and 2 inches below.
  4. With low beam on, the bright zone cutoff should be at or below the lower line.
  5. Loosen the adjustment screws on the housing, adjust, and retighten. Use a small right-angle Torx if access is limited.

LED vs. Halogen — Pros and Cons

Feature Halogen LED
Brightness Good (standard) Excellent (up to 3x brighter)
Color Temperature 3200K (warm yellow) 6000K (cool white daylight)
Lifespan 500-1000 hours 25,000-50,000 hours
Power Draw Higher (60W/55W) Lower (25-30W equivalent)
Heat Generation High Low
Cost $10-20 $30-80
Plug-and-play Yes May need load equalizers

LED Flasher Warning: Use load equalizers or an LED-compatible flasher relay (H-D 68888-05) when replacing turn signal bulbs with LEDs to prevent hyper-flashing.

Legal Notes

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Mistake Consequence Prevention
